Sanctioned Tournaments

Majors

Oregon Junior Golf has a proud tradition of providing an organized and professional competitive experience for our members.  While many of our juniors will go to play collegiate golf, the majority participate because they love the game and our events are a place where life-long friendships are made.  We offer a variety of options and over 70 days competition each year.

Tournaments

Oregon Junior Golf staff and our exceptional volunteer corps administer all Majors.  These events still represent players of all skill levels and are our most popular events.  As such, they often end up with waiting lists because we can only fit so many juniors on a course on a given day.

Majors also award Junior Team Points that help to determine which players are selected to represent our region during international team events.

Tournaments of special note include the Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur, a week long match-play tournament, the Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championship, a limited field 54-hole stroke play event, and the Junior Tournament of Champions, held annually to conclude our season and honor every division winner throughout the season.

We are so fortunate to have the support of dozens of club professionals and tournament chairs throughout the region who agree to host a junior tournament each summer.

Oregon Junior Golf provides administrative support leading up to the event and a list of best practices.  However, as each club is in charge of their own event, each sanctioned tournament will have a different feel and a unique experience.

Sanctioned tournaments near the Portland Metro will regularly have waiting lists.

Oregon Junior Golf recommends most juniors new to competitive golf begin by playing in sanctioned tournaments.

Regional and National Events feature players of high skill.  Some of these events will  require a qualifier prior to gaining entry into the field.

Oregon Junior Golf will also invite our most skilled junior players to represent our region in the Boys' and Girls' Junior America's Cup, the North Pacific Junior Girls' Team Matches, and the Eddie Hogan Cup Team Matches.

Similar to qualifiers, registering for these events and eligibility restrictions can be complex - should you have any questions or concerns, contact us and we'll help you better understand we

Oregon Junior Golf, on behalf of the United States Golf Association, administers one US Junior and one US Girls' Junior Qualifier each summer. In addition, we administer a qualifier for the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships in conjunction with the Oregon Junior Stroke Play.

As a courtesy, our schedule also includes qualifiers administered by outside organizations.

With the exception of the Callaway Junior World Qualifier, all qualifiers on our schedule require that players enter with a organization administering the qualifier.  We know this process can be complicated and, if you are having difficulty registering for an outside qualifier, please contact us and we will be happy to help!
